Tattoos - close to an experience

It was an attempt to distill my judgmental attitude towards tattoos and those who bore them. Previous to my visit to the studio, I started watching a new reality series, Miami Ink. The show is about a tattoo studio in Miami run by four artists and the stories about their clientele. Many of the tattoos featured on Miami Ink are done as a memorial (like one widower who had a picture of his wife tattooed on his arm, and after she died, he had his twin boys permanently marked on his chest right beside their mom)

While I was waiting for Mike to get prepped for his tattoo, I had a chance to look though some of the albums displaying the work of the two artists. It is amazing just how meticulous the craft is. When I got in the room with Mike and his tattoo artist, Steve. It was quite the experience. It amazes me that people pay for the pain that's inflicted upon them. Pain is something I get for nothing.

I used to think tattoos were permanent. I was wrong. If a person changes his/her mind about a piece of body art they can always get it covered over with something bigger and uglier. Go figure.

Anyway, my visit didn't change my perspective on the subject of tattoos. The only permanent part of my life is Jesus. He's the only thing that is purely concrete. Everything else is all about change. So why would I want to put something so permanent on my skin, when everything in my life, except Jesus, changes.
